Mechanical Engineer

Precision Machines & Prototyping

80–100% · Lugano, Switzerland

The role

Lumaspect is an early-stage technology company developing intelligent inspection and automation systems for electronics manufacturing. We combine machine vision, precision hardware and AI to help manufacturers improve quality and automate production.

We are looking for a mechanical engineer who enjoys taking equipment from an initial concept to a working prototype. You will develop the structures, positioning mechanisms and optical mounts that make our machines stable, practical to assemble and repeatable in operation.

What you will do

  • Design machine frames, linear motion assemblies, adjustable optical mounts and PCB fixtures.
  • Select and integrate commercial stages, guides, actuators and other standard components.
  • Produce 3D CAD assemblies, manufacturing drawings and bills of materials.
  • Work with suppliers on machined, sheet-metal and additively manufactured parts.
  • Assemble prototypes, investigate mechanical issues and test alignment, stiffness and repeatability.
  • Improve designs for assembly, serviceability and eventual production, working closely with electronics and software engineering.

What you bring

  • A qualification in mechanical engineering or mechatronics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience designing and physically assembling machines, instruments or precision mechanisms.
  • Proficiency with a professional 3D CAD system and manufacturing drawings.
  • Understanding of tolerances, fits, material selection and common manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to diagnose problems through measurements and practical testing.
  • Working proficiency in English and Italian preferred; strong candidates still developing one language are welcome.

Experience with optical equipment, motion systems, vibration, thermal stability or machine safety would be valuable. Relevant prototype work matters more than a particular CAD brand.
